Speech Therapy for Children and Teens
Supporting Children and Teens to Communicate Confidently, and Swallow Safely
Every child deserves to be heard, understood, and confident. We support children and teens with communication and safe swallowing, tailoring therapy to their interests and strengths. Working closely with families, teachers, and carers, we make therapy practical, fun, and meaningful—helping skills learned in sessions carry over into everyday life.
Speech Sounds & Articulation
Is your child hard to understand, even by family? Do they say "wabbit" instead of "rabbit," or struggle with sounds like "s," "r," or "th"?
How we can help: We'll work on clear, confident speech through play-based activities that feel like games, not homework. Using evidence-based techniques, we'll help your child produce sounds correctly and be understood by everyone—from grandparents to teachers to new friends on the playground.
What you could see: Clearer speech, more confidence, and fewer frustrations when trying to communicate.
Language Development
Is your child a late talker? Do they struggle to follow directions, tell stories, or use words to express what they need?
Language skills include both understanding language, and using it to communicate effectively. Some children understand more than they can say, while others have trouble with both.
How we can help: We'll build vocabulary, sentence structure, and comprehension skills through activities that match your child's interests—whether that's dinosaurs, Bluey, or building blocks. I'll also give you practical strategies to support language development at home, during everyday routines.
What you could see: More words, longer sentences, better understanding of stories and conversations, and a child who can express their thoughts and feelings more easily.
Stuttering & Fluency
Does your child repeat sounds ("b-b-ball"), get stuck on words, or show tension when trying to talk?
Stuttering is more than just "bumpy speech"—it can affect a child's confidence and willingness to communicate. While parents don't cause stuttering, there's much they can do to support their child.
How we can help: For preschoolers, we use evidence-based programs that involve you as a partner in therapy. For school-age children and teens, we focus on building fluency skills while addressing feelings and attitudes about speaking. The goal isn't just smoother speech—it's confidence in all communication situations.
What you could see: Reduced stuttering frequency and tension, increased confidence, and strategies your child can use independently.
Social Communication
Does your child find it hard to make friends, take turns in conversation, understand jokes, or read body language?
Social communication is about more than just words—it's about understanding social cues, staying on topic, knowing when to talk and when to listen.
How we can help: We'll work on conversation skills, understanding nonverbal communication, problem-solving in social situations, and navigating the complex social world of childhood and adolescence. Sessions are practical and hands-on, often involving role-play and real-life scenarios.
What you could see: Better friendships, easier playdates, improved classroom participation, and a child who feels more connected to peers.
Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)
If your child has complex communication needs and speech alone isn't enough, AAC can open up their world.
How we can help: I'll assess your child's communication needs and support them in using communication devices, apps, sign language, picture systems, or other tools to express themselves. AAC isn't a "last resort"—it's a powerful way to give children a voice.
What you could see: Your child being able to share their thoughts, make choices, participate in family life, and connect with others in meaningful ways.
Safe swallowing
Does your child struggle with chewing, swallowing, or eating safely? Difficulties with feeding can impact health, confidence, and participation in mealtimes.
How we can help: We'll assess your child’s swallowing and feeding skills, and provide tailored strategies, exercises, and supports to improve safety and confidence at mealtimes. Therapy is practical, hands-on, and often integrated into everyday routines.
What you could see: Safer swallowing, increased confidence during meals, and a child who can participate more fully in family and social mealtimes.
